Welcome to the Friday Five! Every Friday we share our top five articles, stories, and quotes for you to read and share with your friends and church families. Do you enjoy and benefit from NC Values' Friday Five? Would you consider making a $5 donation?
1. Live Action sends demand letter to Twitter over blocking of pro-life ads
Live Action says Twitter has suppressed its ads, and the Washington Post reported Friday on the battle between the two organizations. (The original headline stated, “Twitter won’t run an anti-abortion group’s paid advertising unless it scrubs its website of sensitive content.”)
2. House Passes and Senate Files Pro-Life Bill Banning Late-Term Abortions After 20 Weeks
Major pro-life news:
"The House of Representatives today approved a pro-life bill that bans abortions from after 20-weeks of pregnancy up to the day of birth.
The vote for the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act broke down on mostly partisan lines with Republicans supporting the ban on late-term abortions and Democrats opposing it. The House approved the bill on a 237-189 vote."
The Senate has also filed the 20-week abortion ban.
3. Supreme Court’s in session with Gorsuch on board, gay wedding cake case on deck
"One thing is for sure—no matter how it’s decided, the case will be a blockbuster. Eastman believes it could be bigger than the Hobby Lobby opinion a few years back, which allowed a company to be exempt from a contraceptive mandate due to religious objections. That case was limited in scope, but if the Court found for Phillips, it could mean there’s a constitutional right that would trump numerous statutes across the nation."
4. VOTE: This Upcoming Tuesday is Election Day for Local Elections
We strongly encourage you to make plans to get out and vote on Tuesday October 10th for your local elections.
"2017 is an odd-numbered year, which means that municipal elections all across North Carolina will be held in the fall. Municipal elections occur between September and November, depending on what style of election the municipality uses. The state of North Carolina provides for four distinct election types, which are detailed more fully on our election information page."

5. Emma Deserves a New Identity
Below is a copy of an op-ed I wrote that I thought you'd be interested in. It speaks to the issue of whether the Buncombe County School System should give in to the pressure of adopting a transgender bathroom policy.
WEEKLY PRAYER: LIFE
LORD, we recognize that you are Sovereign over all creation. We recognize you made man from the dust, and in your mercy crowned creation with man and woman made in your image. What a wonder it is that you would bestow upon us this blessing and responsibility!
We pray LORD that we would not take this for granted. We pray that both this great responsibility, and this great dignity, may motivate us to love you more, love our neighbor more, and love ourselves more.
We pray that such a great dignity--to be made in your image--may sober our minds and hands. LORD, let us work and love towards respecting and protecting the dignity of your human creation. Be with us as we champion this dignity in public by calling for the protection of human life in the womb; a life that you tell us you knit and know. Be with the efforts of the pro-life movement in abolishing the inhuman savagery of terminating human life in the womb. Be with our families, churches, and ministries as they work through pregnancy centers or adoption and fostering to care for the orphans and needy. Be with us in loving mothers and caring for widows.
LORD, we also bring these specific prayer requests to you, and pray that your Spirit may empower and protect our labor: Be with Live Action as they pursue fair treatment in their righteous cause from Twitter. Be with the Senate as they consider and pass the House's 20-week abortion ban.
"For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb." (Ps 139:13)
"Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; And in Your book were all written The days that were ordained for me, When as yet there was not one of them." (Ps 139:16)
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.” (Jer 1:5)
