3. LADY LIBERTY: Durham charter to hold pride and liberation event featuring drag queen story hour
"The Central Park School for Children sent an email to staff this week announcing their first 'Pride & Liberation Event' to be held on May 13th. The school will hold LGBTQ themed “mini-lessons” and activities in all K-8 classes during the week prior to the event.
The email was written by Taylor W. Schmidt, who lists his title as 'MS Social & Community Studies.'"
"...on the National Day of Prayer, President Donald trump issued new rules that further protect doctors, nurses and medical professionals who don’t want to be forced to do abortions or refer for them. Trump announced new regulations through the Department of Health and Human Services that will more effectively enforce existing federal laws that protect the conscience rights of healthcare providers.
Despite current law that has protected conscience rights for over 30 years, the lack of regulations resulted in confusion and a lack of awareness within the healthcare community, leaving healthcare personnel vulnerable to discrimination and forcing them to drop their specialties at a time of healthcare scarcity."
5. CATHOLIC NEWS AGENCY: Equality Act advances amid warnings over religious freedom
"The House of Representatives Judiciary Committee has approved a controversial equality bill paving the way for a full vote on the floor of the House. Critics of the bill warn that the legislation will damage religious liberty and conscience rights.
The Equality Act forbids 'discrimination based on sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity in areas including public accommodations and facilities, education, federal funding, employment, housing, credit, and the jury system.'"
The Equality Act is similar to Charlotte's anti-religious-freedom ordinance that necessitated lawmakers pass HB2 to protect people of faith from government punishment and discrimination.
WEEKLY PRAYER: LIFE
LORD, we recognize that you are Sovereign over all creation. We recognize you made man from the dust, and in your mercy crowned creation with man and woman made in your image. What a wonder it is that you would bestow upon us this blessing and responsibility!
We pray LORD that we would not take this for granted. We pray that both this great responsibility, and this great dignity, may motivate us to love you more, love our neighbor more, and love ourselves more.
Father, we pray for all the pro-life bills moving through the NC House and Senate. We praise you for the Senate's vote to override Governor Cooper's veto. We now pray for the House to do the same. We also continue to pray that we may see other pro-life legislation pass and protect women and unborn babies. Help us, Lord, to rise to the call for action to show up at legislative rallies and committee meetings to show our legislators how strongly we support the right to life. Give our legislators courage to stand up for the unborn and to champion protecting the unborn as the centerpiece of their own public service. Never let us rest until we change our society so that it sees the value of life in the womb and abortion becomes unthinkable.
"And Moses said to the people, 'Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will work for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again. The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.'” (Exodus 14:13-14)
