1. After Amendment Ruling, North Carolina GOP Holds Special Session Today!

"The special session is in response to a ruling by a panel of state judges Tuesday that found questions for two of the six amendments submitted to voters don't fairly and impartially describe the proposed alterations. The judges sided with Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper and the state NAACP, both of which sued separately to stop those referendums, which lawmakers approved in June...

Motions to appeal Tuesday's ruling were quickly filed, but GOP legislators contend new legislation would help amendments on these topics remain on the ballots and diffuse the court case. Time for those appeals is dwindling, as ballots also must be finalized within days so that they can be provided to absentee voter no later than Sept. 22."

2. Record visitor spending in all North Carolina Counties in 2017

After HB2 was passed we were told that our economy would suffer and yet we pushed to protect bathroom privacy. That stance came from our desire for safety and if the economy was to suffer because of it we were ready. Turns out that we had a record amount of spending from visitors in the state!

"Record visitor spending in 2017 was reflected with visitor spending increases in all 100 counties, N.C. Secretary of Commerce Anthony M. Copeland said Thursday.

Visitor spending reached nearly $5.4 billion in Mecklenburg, $2.3 billion in Wake, $1.4 billion in Guilford and $1.1 in Buncombe and Dare counties. Rounding out the top 10 counties for visitor spending were Forsyth ($898 million), Durham ($814 million), New Hanover ($578 million), Brunswick ($563 million) and Cumberland ($542 million). The data comes from an annual study commissioned by Visit North Carolina, a unit of the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina.”

4. California Anti-Counseling Bill for Gays Could Ban the Bible

"The California Legislature continues to move ever closer to dictating that people have freedom to act as homosexuals but no freedom to get help to stop acting that way.

The California Assembly is expected this week to vote on a bill which already passed the state Senate that would make it illegal to provide professional counseling to anyone to help them ward off homosexual desires.

By defining such counseling, or the advertisement of such counseling services, as “fraudulent business practices,” the bill puts religious traditionalists at risk.

It opens the door to the possibility of a lawsuit, losing a professional license, or perhaps other penalties merely for advising patients or clients that they can choose not to practice homosexuality."

5. Home schooling on the rise in North Carolina

"As the new school year is set to begin, thousands of students across North Carolina will be staying home. Statistics from the North Carolina Department of Administration show homeschool rates are increasing.

In the 1998-1999 school year, around 21,500 students were homeschooled across the United States. Twenty years later, those numbers have increased by more than 100,000 with an estimated 135,749 students in home schools. "

WEEKLY PRAYER: OFFICIALS

LORD, you are the Judge of the nations. You are Creator of the Heavens and the Earth. You are sovereign over all.

LORD, may we find assurance and comfort in the reality that you are the LORD God. In spite of the political events that are unfolding in our country and around the world, we remind ourselves that you are in control. That the Church is within the protection of your providence. That Jesus is our Prince of Peace, and that one day every knee shall bow and declare His Lordship.

LORD, we also bring these specific prayer requests to you, and pray that your Spirit may empower our petitions: LORD, be with our representatives in North Carolina, as they begin a special session today regarding the ruling of these amendments that are going to be on the ballot soon. Help them to have the courage to uplift you and do your will always. GOD, we thank YOU for President Trump standing up for candidates like Mark Harris and  Ted Budd who work fervently to protect family values centered on your oh LORD. We pray to you for the laws being passed in California. Your word and people have been suppressed in the past and we pray that here in America we do not experience it again. Give strength and vision to those representatives voting on the bill. LORD you see the state of our schools. YOU know how hard it is to instruct our children in your path when at school they are taught wicked ways. We ask you to bless those who are homeschooling more and more in NC and ask that you help them as they take their childrens' education into their own hands. We ask that our work in the nation's and our state's capitols brings about the positive change we believe is YOUR will. Help us every day wake up and do YOUR work. We bring all these issues to Your feet and ask for Your will to be done.

“Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God." (Romans 13:1)

"For kingship belongs to the Lord, and he rules over the nations." (Psalms 22:28)

Amen
