Friday Five: Bishop wins, Alabama and Georgia Pro-Life updates, and more

Welcome to the Friday Five! Every Friday we share our top five articles, stories, and quotes for you to read and share with your friends and church families.

1. NSJ: Bishop wins GOP primary will face McCready for 9th district sea

The North Carolina Values Coalition congratulates Senator Dan Bishop in his overwhelming victory in the Republican primary tonight in the 9th District. Dan Bishop is the conservative leader the voters of the 9th District have been craving. He is someone who makes good decisions, has integrity and character, and has the intellect and experience to get things done. We look forward to sending Dan Bishop to Washington in September after he defeats Dan McCready.

2. NC VALUES: Urgent: Tell Your U.S. Representative to OPPOSE the Anti-Freedom 'Equality Act'

🚨 Urgent: We need you to take a minute to tell your U.S. Representative to support religious freedom by OPPOSING the so-called "Equality Act."

The U.S. House of Representatives is set to vote on H.R. 5 today, which is known as the so-called "Equality Act." This is a dangerous piece of legislation that actually ensures inequality. It victimizes women and empowers the government to coerce uniformity. This is a national SOGI (sexual orientation and gender identity law) that, like Jennifer Robert’s dangerous ordinance in Charlotte, would coerce everyone to follow the government’s definitions for sex, gender, and marriage, and punish those who don’t.

Please take a minute to use this tool to CONTACT your representatives and encourage them to OPPOSE the Anti-Freedom 'Equality Act'

3. NC VALUES: Urgent: Tell your State Legislators to Oppose Infanticide in NC by Overriding Cooper's Veto

We urgently need you to contact your state Representative and encourage them to OVERRIDE Governor Cooper's Veto of the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. SB359 is a common-sense legislation introduced by Sen. Krawiec, Hise & Harrington, and Rep. McElraft, Conrad, Stevens & Hurley, that is all about preventing infanticide.

This bill is about infanticide, plain and simple. Thirty-one states have laws offering at least some explicit protection to babies who survive abortions, but North Carolina has not established legal protections for born-alive infants. A state law is necessary to ensure that all infants who survive abortions are protected.

We need our legislators to vote their conscience instead of following the Governor, who is pushing denying medical care to premature infants who are inconveniently (for the abortionist) born alive, instead of dying during the abortion.

We beg you to help PROTECT these babies born alive during abortions by asking your Representative to VOTE THEIR CONSCIENCE AND OVERRIDE COOPER'S VETO of the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act.

4. NATIONAL REVIEW: Alabama and Georgia Are Throwing Down the Gauntlet against Roe. Good.

"We are witnessing the beginnings of an anti-abortion legislative revolution in Red America. Two generations of pro-life activism, persuasion, and argument have yielded pro-life supermajorities in state houses across much of the South and Midwest, and they recognize the fact that we have reached a moment of legal possibility we may never attain again — perhaps not for generations. It is possible (maybe not likely, but possible) that the Supreme Court could overrule Roe v. Wade, and these legislatures have chosen to go for broke."

5. THE BLAZE: VIDEO: UNC Abortion advocate cries, begs, pleads when college cop arrests her for stealing pro-life sign — and it's a major hoot

"Just a few days after a woman outside of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill went berserk and attacked a young male pro-life intern, yet another pro-abortion foot soldier at the campus went on a mission — and paid for her actions with a tearful arrest caught on camera."

LORD, you are the giver of life and liberty. You are the One in whom we find true freedom. We pray with the deepest of gratitude, because you've broken our chains of depravity, and have gifted us a freedom born in love and service.

LORD, may we not take our liberties lightly. Even today, our brothers and sisters all across the globe experience physical, emotional, and social torture because they rightly cry out: "JESUS IS LORD!" Every day, our brethren across the globe experience persecution, and this has been a shared story of the church since its inception. Be with our brothers and sisters all across the world who suffer for crying out alongside us, "Jesus is LORD!" Grant them the fullness and power of your Spirit.

Finally, LORD we ask you to give babies—born and unborn—the freedom to live! To be cared for and treated with dignity and respect, so that they may live the lives You created them for.

“For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.” (Romans 8:2)

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.  He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” (Luke 4:18-19)
