1. California school district says parents can’t pull kids from new LGBT sex ed

ICYMI: What has been going on in California with LGBT sex ed. This is why we exist in North Carolina, to prevent this exact scenario! North Carolina needs to create protections for parents, so they will have guaranteed freedom to opt their kids out of instruction about LGBT lifestyles.

"California is about to implement new abortion- and homosexualty-promoting sex education lessons, and one school district has told parents they have no choice but to expose their children to them.

California enacted the California Healthy Youth Act in 2015, but only now are its controversial provisions starting to take effect in classrooms. Under the auspices of health, the law says it will equip students to develop “healthy attitudes” on “gender [and] sexual orientation,” among other things. It also says it will inform students about the “effectiveness and safety of all FDA-approved contraceptive methods,” and facilitate “objective discussion” about “parenting, adoption, and abortion.”"

2. Majority of North Carolinians still support traditional marriage

In North Carolina, only 49 percent support same-sex marriage. The other five states are Alabama (41%), Mississippi (42%), Tennessee (46%), West Virginia (48%) and Louisiana (48%). Read this latest study on LGBT Issues from PRRI from the 2017 American Values Atlas.

"Since the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in 2015 that same sex couples have a constitutional right to marry, support for same-sex marriage has increased substantially. Currently, more than six in ten (61%) Americans say gay and lesbian couples should be able to marry legally, while only about half as many (30%) are opposed."

4. A Response to Michelle Wolf: There Is Nothing Funny About Abortion

"There is nothing in the least bit funny about abortion. Not for the baby's mother. Not for the baby's father. Not for the abortion workers. And, above all, not for the baby, who is brutally terminated in the womb.

There is nothing funny about the remains of abortion (clinically called the "products of conception"). Nothing funny about the severed parts of tiny humans – little hands and little legs and little eyes. Nothing funny about Planned Parenthood making money off these dismembered babies.

There is nothing funny about the after-effects of abortion. Nothing funny about the grief and guilt experienced by many a mother (and father). Nothing funny about the women who are unable to conceive after an abortion. Nothing to laugh at all.

Yet in the midst of a vulgar, over the top "comedy" routine at the annual White House correspondents' dinner, Michelle Wolf decided to joke about abortion."

5. As girls arrive, Boy Scouts change name of flagship program

"For 108 years, the Boy Scouts of America's flagship program has been known simply as the Boy Scouts. With girls soon entering the ranks, the group says that iconic name will change.

“The organization on Wednesday announced a new name for its Boy Scouts program: Scouts BSA. The change will take effect in February."

LORD, you are the giver of life and liberty. You are the One in whom we find true freedom. We pray with the deepest of gratitude, because you've broken our chains of depravity, and have gifted us a freedom born in love and service.

LORD, may we not take our liberties lightly. Even today, our brothers and sisters all across the globe experience physical, emotional, and social torture because they rightly cry out: "JESUS IS LORD!" Every day, our brethren across the globe experience persecution, and this has been a shared story of the church since its inception. May our hearts, prayers, and resources be with our brethren at home and abroad, and may this reality sober us to the gift we have in our Constitution's protections of religious freedom.

LORD, we also bring these specific prayer requests to you, and pray that your Spirit may empower and protect our labor: LORD, be with the voters as they select new leaders in the primaries on May 8th, and guide them to choose the best leaders for NC who are Champions of the Family. LORD, we pray for California and the bill that might stop parents and pastors from getting the resources they need to help people address sexual issues. LORD, help NC to never use the government to take away parental freedom to raise their children according to their beliefs. Protect our freedom to opt out our kids from instruction that fights against our values about sexuality. LORD, be with the women of Charlotte as they stand up for the lives of the unborn while on a national scale comedians are making disgusting jokes about the murder of your children. GOD we thank you for all your blessings and ask that you guide us in raising children who walk in the path you have for them.

"It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery." (Ga 5:1)
