1. North Carolina Settles With Magistrate It Forced Out for Not Doing Gay Marriages
"The state of North Carolina has restored lost salary and retirement benefits to a former magistrate whom officials forced out because she wouldn’t abandon her religious beliefs to perform civil marriage ceremonies for same-sex couples.
Gayle Myrick won $300,000, including $122,660 in back pay, in a settlement agreement made public Wednesday by her lawyers at Becket, a Washington-based nonprofit that defends religious freedom.
“The state of North Carolina should not have discriminated against Gayle Myrick for her sincerely held religious beliefs about marriage. Accommodating her conscience took nothing away from same-sex couples’ ability to obtain marriage licenses,” Ryan T. Anderson, a senior research fellow at The Heritage Foundation, and Emilie Kao, a lawyer who directs Heritage’s DeVos Center for Religion and Civil Society, said in a joint statement to The Daily Signal.
“Our country has found ways to honor the consciences of those with differing views on the death penalty, the draft, and abortion. And federal employment anti-discrimination law requires we do the same on marriage too. Anything less would be un-American,” Anderson and Kao said."
2. Cumberland County moves to end ‘Get Real’ sex ed program
Great news! Cumberland County School Board has heard your voice! The Board voted unanimously to dump Planned Parenthood's sex education curriculum "Get Real", which is so vulgar it would make your grandmother blush.
"The Cumberland County school board’s Curriculum Committee voted Tuesday to discontinue a sex education program that had drawn criticism from some parents last year."
3. Forcing bakers to make gay wedding cakes violates free speech, California judge rules
Major victory for religious liberty in California, of all places.
"Here’s more from the ruling: “A wedding cake is not just a wedding cake in Free Speech analysis. It is an artistic expression by the person making it that is to be used traditionally as centerpiece in the celebration of marriage. There could not be greater form of expressive conduct.”
The judge also noted that Miller recommended the couple go to a competitor to get their cake."
4. Celebrities Call for Ban on Boiling Lobsters Because They Feel Pain, But Aborting Babies is Fine
How do they not see the hypocrisy?
"The humane treatment of animals is important, but many celebrities ignore how pain-capable human babies also are being brutally killed in abortions.
The Daily Mail reports British comedian Bill Bailey and wildlife presenter Chris Packham put their support behind an effort to prohibit lobsters from being boiled or dismembered alive in the UK.
They joined the organization Crustacean Compassion in sending a letter to British Environment Secretary Michael Gove, urging him to include lobsters as sentient creatures in a new Animal Welfare bill, according to the report."
5. Parents furious as school cancels father-daughter dance over gender issues
This is sad and ridiculous. We need to be encouraging fatherhood, not dismissing it!
"A grade school in Staten Island, New York was forced to cancel its annual father-daughter dance because it violated a new school district policy regarding transgender and gender nonconforming student.
The New York Department of Education directed schools to eliminate any gender-based practices like the daddy-daughter dance unless the activities served a clear education purpose, the New York Post first reported.
“If this doesn’t convince you that the PC/SJW movement has lost their minds I don’t know what will,” Donald Trump, Jr. tweeted. “This nonsense really needs to stop.”"
WEEKLY PRAYER: LIBERTY
LORD, you are the giver of life and liberty. You are the One in whom we find true freedom. We pray with the deepest of gratitude, because you've broken our chains of depravity, and have gifted us a freedom born in love and service.
LORD, may we not take our liberties lightly. Even today, our brothers and sisters all across the globe experience physical, emotional, and social torture because they rightly cry out: "JESUS IS LORD!" Every day, our brethren across the globe experience persecution, and this has been a shared story of the church since its inception.
LORD, we also bring these specific prayer requests to you, and pray that your Spirit may empower our petitions: Be with our country and church, as it faces such a large threat from federal and state governments. We thank You LORD for Gayle Myrick and her standing up for her faith. LORD, we pray for the Cumberland School Board and thank You for the decision to not introduce the Get Real sex ed curriculum. LORD, we pray that the school board in New York reconsiders caving to the social pressure that takes away such a powerful relationship as that of a father and daughter. LORD, we pray that you be with celebrities as they blindly call for the care of lobsters over that of babies, truly sentient beings that feel pain and deserve to be protected. Be with us, and the least among us, as we work to protect the foundational and first freedom. Be with us as we advance and advocate for the chief liberty.
“For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.” (Romans 8:2)
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” (Luke 4:18-19)
