1. WUNC: The fight over sex ed in North Carolina
"What do North Carolina students learn in school about the birds and the bees and what should they learn? At local school board meetings and at the state Capitol, parents, government officials and advocacy groups all vie for control over curriculum and funding."
On the subject, it's also worth pointing out that California has adopted a Planned Parenthood program that pushes sex on kids as young as 5 or 6. Ironically, we adopted a Healthy Youth Act 8 years ahead of liberal California; it's part of the package of Planned Parenthood curriculum that SHIFT NC is pushing on our schools.
2. LIFENEWS: NEA supports killing future students, backs so-called “Fundamental Right to Abortion”
"American’s largest teachers union officially embraced a position supporting the killing of its future students during its annual assembly Saturday.
The National Education Association (NEA) Representative Assembly passed a measure declaring abortion to be a 'fundamental right,' Christian Headlines reports. The union also attacked President Donald Trump and other pro-life politicians who work to protect unborn babies from being slaughtered."
3. CNBC: NC's Economy is #1; NC’s bathroom law continues to have no impact on our economy.
According to CNBC's scorecard on state economic climates, North Carolina's economy is the best in the nation, proving that NC’s bathroom bill continues to have no impact on the economy. Overall, it is also the #3 best state for businesses.
"Republican Lt. Gov. Dan Forest will formally begin his 2020 campaign for governor next month at a weekend rally.
The campaign has opened up free ticket registration for the event which will begin at 2pm on Saturday Aug. 17 at the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds.
According to the site, Forest will focus 'on a message of unity over division and decency over incivility.'
Forest is a Raleigh architect who was first elected lieutenant governor in 2012. He won re-election four years later and is the highest-ranking GOP executive branch official in North Carolina government since Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper’s 2016 victory. Cooper is seeking re-election."
5. LIFENEWS: Court rules President Trump can defund Planned Parenthood, will cut almost $60 million in taxpayer funding
"A federal appeals court today ruled President Donald Trump can partially defund planned Parenthood while the abortion business’ lawsuit against his administration’s new rules moves forward.
As LifeNews reported in March, the Trump administration finalized an administrative rule that would partially defund the Planned Parenthood abortion business and deprive it of as much as $60 million in taxpayer dollars. This action adds to President Trump’s record of defunding the Planned Parenthood abortion company."
WEEKLY PRAYER: FAMILY
LORD, we cry out to you as Father. You are a model of the love, mercy, and authority of the perfect parent. We thank you for modeling for us what every parent should strive for, and for creating this wonderful institution called family.
LORD, we thank you for creating us with a basic nature designed to not be alone. You made us to desire the intimacy of relationships, and it is here where we experience joys indescribable: the joys of marriage, the joys of having children; the joys of seeing our children have children. What a blessing and mercy you gave us in the family! In it we find our first teachers, our first guardians, and our first authorities.
LORD, we recognize how deeply you love your children, and how deeply it pains you when they go astray. Alongside our adoration and thanksgiving, we pray in confession--as individuals and as members of larger communities--over any sins we may have committed that undermine your beloved institution. Forgive us when we endanger your institution through selfishness and arrogance. Forgive our communities and nation for attempting to redefine some of the most basic and deepest parts of being human--being made male and female, having lifelong marriage vows and responsibilities, and having parental rights over educating one's children.
"Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, 13 bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. 14 And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." (Colossians 3:12-17)
