1. POLITICO: Planned Parenthood President fired after 10 months for not pushing abortion hard enough. What Leana Wen’s Firing Reveals About Planned Parenthood
"But Wen, it turns out, wasn’t single-mindedly devoted to abortion enough. With her ouster, Planned Parenthood’s mask, never very firmly in place to begin with, has slipped. No matter its political spin during fights over its funding, no matter what its glossy printed materials say, no matter how dishonestly it presents the statistics related to its services, the organization is about abortion first and last, now and forever.
In a letter tweeted after her firing, Wen cited 'philosophical differences' with the leadership of the board. Namely, she had come to Planned Parenthood 'to run a national health care organization.' The board wanted 'to double down on abortion rights advocacy.'"
2. FOX NEWS: Trump abortion rule deals 'devastating blow' to Planned Parenthood group says
"The Trump administration stopped taxpayer dollars from going to abortion referrals at publicly funded family planning centers on Monday.
Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest abortion provider, sued the administration, along with 20 states and the District of Columbia, in an attempt to stop Health and Human Services, or HHS, from diverting Title X family planning funding going to abortions. But the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, with two judges appointed by Trump, rejected the plea."
For the record, under Governor Cooper, North Carolina joined the lawsuit against the Trump administration because our pro-abortion Attorney General, Josh Stein, thought it was a good use of taxpayer money to support Planned Parenthood.
3. WRAL: President Trump holds a rally in Greenville, NC. Endorses Congressional Candidates Dan Bishop in the 9th and Greg Murphy in the 3rd (both have also been endorsed by the NC Values Coalition).
"President Donald Trump on Wednesday gave thousands of supporters what they stood in line for hours to hear.
During his campaign rally at Minges Coliseum on the campus of East Carolina University in Greenville, Trump thanked over 8,000 supporters who packed the facility. He was also joined by Vice President Mike Pence, some members of his family and even two Republican candidates from North Carolina vying for open seats in Congress."
"CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Superintendent Dr. Clayton Wilcox has been suspended from the job with pay, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools confirmed to NBC Charlotte Monday morning."
UPDATE (7/19/2019): Dr. Clayton Wilcox resigns.
5. WRAL: Virtual charter school gets legislative approval to grow, but opponents push for a veto
"The Senate approved a bill Tuesday that would, among other things, get rid of the enrollment cap on one of the state’s two virtual charter schools and allow it to grow its population by 20 percent annually if it so chose.
While there was no debate on the Senate floor Tuesday, legislative proponents of the bill have said that the schools attract “struggling students” and shouldn’t have a cap that artificially cuts off the number of such students who can use the resource."
WEEKLY PRAYER: LIBERTY
LORD, you are the giver of life and liberty. You are the One in whom we find true freedom. We pray with the deepest of gratitude, because you've broken our chains of depravity, and have gifted us a freedom born in love and service.
LORD, may we not take our liberties lightly. Even today, our brothers and sisters all across the globe experience physical, emotional, and social torture because they rightly cry out: "JESUS IS LORD!" Every day, our brethren across the globe experience persecution, and this has been a shared story of the church since its inception. Be with our brothers and sisters all across the world who suffer for crying out alongside us, "Jesus is LORD!" Grant them the fullness and power of your Spirit.
Finally, LORD we ask you to give babies—born and unborn—the freedom to live! To be cared for and treated with dignity and respect, so that they may live the lives You created them for.
“For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.” (Romans 8:2)
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” (Luke 4:18-19)
