Urgent: Tell your Mecklenburg County Officials to Oppose Anti-Religious Liberty SOGI Ordinances

Mecklenburg County Commissioners will vote on Tuesday night, February 2nd on expanding the county’s nondiscrimination policy to include, among other things, “sexual orientation” and “gender identity” (SOGI).  The expanded policy will be followed in a few weeks by a new law to force people of faith in Charlotte and surrounding towns to violate their consciences, stifle their free speech, and give up their privacy.

Every American should be free to peacefully express himself or herself at home, work, school, and in the community without fear of government censorship or punishment. While we will likely disagree very strongly with each other at times, respecting differences allows for civil discourse and healthy dialogue in a diverse society. Every one of us should be free to peacefully live and work consistent with our beliefs, expect safety and privacy in sex-specific spaces, and live without government coercion or censorship. We should be free to associate with others and form organizations, businesses, and other groups around shared values and beliefs. However, SOGI laws coerce uniformity of thought and speech on beliefs about marriage, sex, and what it means to be male and female.
