Do you believe that parents have the right to know what schools are teaching their children about sex?
If you believe our kids schools shouldn't be a "parent free school zone" when it comes to sex education curriculums, use this click-to-contact tool to ask your NC General Assembly legislators to support a "Parent's Right to Know" by passing protections and transparencies that guard a parent's right to oversee their kid's education. Ask them to support commonsense solutions such as having schools post easy-to-access links of their kids sex education curriculums online before it's too late!
Who could possibly be opposed to more transparency in our schools, especially when it involves teaching about sex?
- Parents and/or guardians should be able to visit a website, click a link, and review the materials. Instead of transparency, schools are allowed to coverup and withhold from parents what is being taught to their own children about sex.
- The SCOTUS has determined that parents have a fundamental right to direct the upbringing and education of their children (Meyer v. State of Nebraska, 262 U.S. 390 (1923)).
- When we look at the Sex Ed programs in counties such as Cumberland, Onslow, Carteret, and Wayne Counties, parents should have been notified and invited to review and discuss new sex materials being adopted from the beginning. Due to the absence of needed and commonsense transparencies, objectionable materials about sex were adopted by school staff.
- Allowing parents greater transparency when adopting sex curriculum PROTECTS THE RIGHTS OF ALL PARENTS.
