Sonja has lived in Charlotte for 20 years with her husband who is a Private Wealth Division executive at Bank of America. She has three grown children. She describes herself as "an accomplished businesswoman, published author, active community leader,... and a bridge between diverse communities." Sonja is the president and CEO of Nicholant Enterprises, a security-services firm staffed entirely by U.S. military veterans. Prior to founding Nicholant Enterprises, Sonja worked as a system engineer for IBM and a marketing representative for PepsiCo. Sonja earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting, and an MBA in Marketing and Computer Information Systems from Florida A&M University. She also completed the University of Richmond's Executive Management Program. Sonja started an angel investment firm to help minority business start-ups and has led many non-profits in the community.
Sonja Nichols' priorities in the State Senate will be:
- Affordable housing and healthcare
- Job creation
- Support for Veterans
- Pro-business and low taxes
- Education funding
Sonja Nichols' opponent is sitting State Senator Jeff Jackson, who was endorsed by the Sierra Club and pro-LGBT activist group Equality, NC, and marched in the streets with Black Lives Matters. Jeff Jackson intends to take the State in a very different direction from the direction Sonja Nichols will lead.
As you can see, Sonja is a real leader and champion for North Carolina values. It is with high honor that the North Carolina Values Coalition endorses Sonja Nichols for Senate District 37.
