These past two months have been an exciting time for the pro-life movement. As we have been closely documenting in our campaigns and emails, several states across our country have responded to the outrageous anti-life positions of New York's Governor and General Assembly by instead proposing pro-life legislation.
Fortunately, North Carolina is one of them. In the past two months, NC senators and representatives have proposed 7 new pro-life bills, which we have helped with and have been busy working hard to make sure as many of them get passed as possible. These bills make "dismemberment abortions" illegal (SB-51 & HB-54), require physicians to educate women about treatments for abortion pill reversal (SB-52, HB-53, & HB-22), ban abortions after 13 weeks (HB-28), and protect babies born alive during attempted abortions (SB-359).
Unfortunately, anti-life opponents have also been busy in our state. Earlier this week, a federal judge nixed North Carolina's decades-old 20-week abortion ban. And before that, our state's Attorney General joined a lawsuit against President Trump's attempt to defund Planned Parenthood.
The pro-life movement's activities have also expanded into non-political institutions that help shape culture. This Friday, the film Unplanned—which is about a former employee-of-the-year Planned Parenthood clinic director turned pro-life advocate—will be released in theaters across the nation. However, it too has faced opposition. The MPAA controversially slapped the film with an R rating for a "violent" scene documenting an abortion on a sonogram.
In some states, a girl who is 15 can get an abortion, but cannot watch a film depicting one. Meanwhile, a movie like Aquaman gets a PG-13 rating, yet depicts the violence of shooting people to death and impaling them with tridents.
We've been very busy working with legislators and influencers to advance the pro-life movement through legislation and events. Would you consider making a needed $100, $50, $25 or more donation today towards our end-of-the-quarter fundraising goal to ensure our second quarter campaigns as just as successful as our first?
To celebrate your giving, we'll even be giving away a free ticket to go see Unplanned this weekend to one random giver who donates any amount before 11:59pm, March 29th 2019.
